where should i post a site-wide notice?
I need to tell all users about a planned maintenance window, but I’m not seeing the right place to put a message that reaches everyone. Is this meant to go in a pinned topic, a banner, or something else? I’m mid-task and don’t want to set it up the wrong way.

If you want it visible to everyone without depending on category subscriptions, use the banner message at the top of the site. That is the simplest option for a temporary notice. If you need it to stay around longer, a pinned topic in a public category works better. For a one-time maintenance note, I’d start with the banner and remove it once the window passes.

If the message needs to stay in one place and be easy to link to later, a pinned topic is usually safer than a banner. The banner is better for short-lived notices.
