how i got the rebuild time under control
we were getting hammered by rebuilds after uploads landed, and the queue kept backing up. i stopped trying to tune the symptom and went straight at the file handling path.
i verified the upload ownership step first, then looked at where the slow part was actually happening. it was the chown work on a large upload set. after that, i moved the heavy rebuild window out of peak hours and cut the number of unnecessary rebuilds by tightening the trigger that was kicking them off. that was the part that made the pipeline feel less fragile.
not fancy. just less churn. if you’re seeing the same thing, check whether your rebuilds are being driven by something noisy upstream. does anyone else have upload-heavy instances where the ownership step dominates?

This matched what I saw too. The trigger was noisier than the rebuild itself, which made the whole thing look worse than it was.
